Does This Sound Familiar?

  • School takes all day and only one page gets done

  • Writing ends up in tears or arguing

  • They rush or avoid because school feels confusing

  • Directions have to be reapeated constantly

  • Assignments become a daily struggle

  • They're bright and capable, but need you to sit next to them for every task

  • You're burned out and tired of feeling like school is a fight

Who This Helps

Many capable students struggle with reading or writing not because they aren’t trying, but because a few foundation skills never fully clicked.

The Learning Lab is a small-group, guided work session where I help students strengthen those underlying skills so school becomes clearer and less frustrating.

What Happens in a Session

Each 90-minute session includes:

• brief check-in with current work (about 20 minutes)
• targeted practice in comprehension, organization, and writing skills
• step-by-step guidance in a calm setting

This is not a full curriculum class — it supports the work you’re already using at home.

Groups

Our Groups are based on learning needs rather than age.

  • Early Reading & Writing

  • Paragraph & Writing Skills

  • Essay Organization & Writing

Very small groups (3–4 students)

Sibling Placement

  • Groups are arranged by learning needs rather than age so students feel comfortable and can progress steadily.

  • Siblings are welcome to attend at the same time when an appropriate fit exists for both, but they may be placed in different groups if their skill needs differ.

  • This allows me to be able to give the appropriate attention to each child within his/her Learning Lab group.

Placement Visit

Before joining a group, students with their parent/adult attend a short 30-minute placement visit so I can see how they approach reading and writing and place them where they’ll feel comfortable and successful.

$25 — applied to the first month if enrolled

Tuition, Schedule, & Absences

Tuition

$225 per month per student

Includes one reserved weekly Learning Lab session.

  • Tuition is a flat monthly amount rather than per-session so schedules remain predictable for everyone and occasional planned breaks do not require billing changes.

  • Because groups are very small and each seat is individually planned, tuition is the same for each student and sibling discounts are not offered.

Absences

  • Tuition holds your child’s spot whether or not they attend that week.

  • If your child must miss a session due to unavoidable circumstances, they may attend another compatible group that same week if space is available. Alternate sessions cannot be guaranteed and do not carry over to future weeks.

  • If your child misses due to illness, we will work to schedule a 1 hour Zoom session OR once your child is completely well, we will add a makeup session if requested.

  • Missed sessions are not refunded or credited.

Sickness

If sessions are cancelled due to sickness in my home or inclement weather, we will work together to schedule a make-up session.

About Sarah Nuss

I’ve spent 20+ years working closely with children in non-traditional learning environments and one-on-one settings, helping students who felt capable but consistently stuck, especially in reading and writing.

Over time I began noticing the same pattern: many students weren’t lacking effort or motivation. A few key foundational skills had never fully clicked, which made every assignment feel harder than it should.

When those gaps were addressed directly, frustration decreased and confidence grew quickly.

My approach is clear, practical, and step-by-step. I observe how each student approaches a task, identify where confusion begins, and guide them through clear, manageable processes they can repeat independently.

Learning Labs are designed to be a supportive place where students can slow down, understand what they’re doing, and move forward with confidence, not pressure.
